In this 2007 oral history interview with Richard Norton Smith, Baker talks about his experiences with Bob Dole, unwritten procedures of the Senate, the role of the Majority Leader, Nixon and other topics.

Baker’s many positions included Senate Minority Leader (1977-1981), Senate Majority Leader (1981-1985), White House Chief of Staff (1987-1988), and Ambassador to Japan (2001-2005). He worked very closely with Senator Dole and was the recipient of the 2006 Dole Leadership Prize.
