In this 2007 oral history interview with Brien R. Williams, Lighthizer talks about working for the Senate Finance Committee, the 1988 Dole Presidential Campaign, and Jimmy Carter's Presidency.

Lighthizer served as the treasurer for the 1996 Dole/Kemp presidential campaign. He also was Chief of Staff of the Senate committee on Finance. He also served as a deputy US Trade Representative during the Reagan Administration and vice chairman of the board of Overseas Private Investment Corporation. He is currently the United States Trade Representative (2017-now).
